Deniz Derbent (Istanbul, 1994) is a designer and new media artist living and working in Berlin. She graduated from İstanbul Bilgi University Visual Communication Design Department in 2017. She is currently studying for her Media Spaces master’s degree at the University of Applied Sciences Europe - BTK). Her early works focused on graphic design. In time, she developed her skills in other disciplines such as interaction design, production methods, sound design, and installation. Since 2015, she has been collectively designing new structures using traditional animation techniques combined with modern technologies. Using this method, she is creating optical illusion based kinetic sculptures, which are progressive media players acting as analog screens. Currently, she is focused on architectural installations and continues to create a way to utilize the harmony of technology, material, space, audio, moving and non-linear forms of expression. Her works have been displayed on a number of festivals and venues such as Contemporary Istanbul, Gaia Gallery, Mamut Art Project, Studio-X Istanbul, Sónar+D and whiteBOX München. In 2017, she was selected as a resident among 12 artists, to participate in the British Council’s AltCity Istanbul artist residency program.
